This May 18-21, Jane Street is excited to host our second Jane Street IN FOCUS program. We're inviting students to spend four days learning more about what we do and how we do it through mentorship, programming, mock trading, classroom lectures, and activities. While we wish we could host the event in our NYC office, located in the heart of the Financial District, we are equally excited to make the second remote IN FOCUS program special, informative and interactive while connecting with you virtually.

This program is for undergraduate students, inclusive of first-year students through seniors, who self-identify with a historically underrepresented minority group (Black or African American, Native American or Alaska Native, Hispanic or Latinx, or Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander). It does not require a prior knowledge of finance, only an interest in seeing what a career in finance and at Jane Street might look like.

Attendees participating in the software engineering program will receive an in-depth look into the ways we use computer science within our firm. They will learn OCaml, the libraries and tools we use in our daily work, and how to put them to use by building a computer game. Participants will also learn the fundamentals of electronic trading systems and write a program that trades on a simulated stock exchange.

Attendees participating in the trading program will learn about mathematical and financial topics such as probability, market structure, and arbitrage through a combination of short classroom lectures, group games, and mock trading sessions. These activities are structured to provide a foundation for and a broad overview of our work, and there will be plenty of opportunities for close interaction with our traders.

Attendees participating in the business development program will explore a broad variety of Infrastructure subgroups, including treasury, compliance, operations, and project consulting, to learn how we solve cross-departmental problems to support the firm’s growth. Case studies and problem-solving exercises will introduce participants to how we optimize funding and financing, set up new trading flows, respond to regulatory inquiries, and generally manage the complex mechanics that underlie Jane Street’s business. The program will give attendees a glimpse into the work that goes on in our business development internship and Rotational Development Program.
