This January, Jane Street is excited to host our INSIGHT program for the sixth year. We’re inviting women, transgender, and gender expansive undergraduates to spend four days in New York learning more about what we do and how we do it through a set of trading and programming classes and activities. Attendees will receive an in-depth look into the ways we use math and computer science, as well as insight into the different roles that exist within our firm.

Selected students will arrive in New York the evening of January 3rd and will depart the morning of January 8th. Jane Street will provide all travel to and from New York, housing, a variety of social events throughout the week and a $500 stipend. Our office is located in Brookfield Place and the hotel where you’ll be staying is just a few blocks from the office. While we intend to host the program in-person, we will continue to monitor the public health landscape. Should we decide to transition the program to a virtual platform, we will notify the selected students as soon as possible.

In the trading program, students will learn about mathematical and financial topics such as probability, market structure, and arbitrage through a combination of short lectures, group games, and mock trading sessions. There will be a main curriculum of core subjects, with flexibility to explore alternative areas of interest for those already familiar with a given topic. These activities are structured to provide a foundation for and a broad overview of our work, and there will be plenty of opportunities for close interaction with our traders.

Students selected for the software engineering program will receive an in-depth look into the ways we use computer science within our firm. They will learn OCaml, the libraries and tools we use in our daily work, and how to put them to use by building a computer game. Participants will also learn the fundamentals of electronic trading systems and write a program that trades on a simulated stock exchange.

Attendees participating in the business development program will explore a broad variety of Infrastructure subgroups, including treasury, compliance, operations, and project consulting, to learn how we solve cross-departmental problems to support the firm’s growth. Case studies and problem-solving exercises will introduce participants to how we optimize funding and financing, set up new trading flows, respond to regulatory inquiries, and generally manage the complex mechanics that underlie Jane Street’s business. The program will give attendees a glimpse into the work that goes on in our business development internship and Rotational Development Program.

Jane Street is a quantitative trading firm with offices worldwide. We hire smart, humble people who love to solve problems, build systems, and test theories. You’ll learn something new every day in our office—whether it’s connecting with a colleague to share perspectives, or participating in a talk, class, or game night. Our success is driven by our people and we never stop improving.

Apply here to be considered for a spot in the program.

After the application deadline, some applicants will receive an invitation to complete a puzzle or coding challenge based on which group you applied for.

The deadline to apply for this event is Sunday, October 31st, 11:59pm ET. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email JSINSIGHT@janestreet.com.

Participants must be fully vaccinated and produce a negative Covid test within 3 days of the program. Masks may be required for the duration of the event. We'll provide updated Covid protocol guidance closer to the event to those who are confirmed for a spot. While we intend to host the program in-person, we will continue to monitor the public health landscape. Should we decide to transition the program to a virtual platform, we will notify the selected students as soon as possible.

Good luck with the application process and we hope to meet you soon!
