WiSE

For: Women starting university

Dates: 18th - 20th August

WiSE is a new, three-day programme hosted by Jane Street. Women in STEM Education is a programme designed for women who are starting university in autumn of 2019. Participants will learn about the real world ways we use math, computer science and probability concepts in the work we do. We’ll provide an in-depth look at the different roles that exist within our firm and participants will hear from and interact with traders and technologists to learn how they transitioned from studying STEM subjects at university to a career at Jane Street. We will also enjoy a few social events which will provide another great opportunity to speak with Jane Street employees and the other women attending the event.

Selected students will arrive in London the evening of Sunday 18th August and will depart the evening of Tuesday 20th August. Jane Street will provide all travel to and from London, accommodation at a hotel near the office, and of course, plenty of food and drinks throughout the event.

WiTT

For: Women currently at university

Dates: 8th - 11th September

This is our fifth year hosting WiTT! Women in Trading and Technology invites women who are currently at university to choose from two program streams: quantitative trading or software engineering. Both streams of the program feature interactive and educational programming during the day, and opportunities to interact with full-timers in a more casual setting in the evenings.

The quantitative trading programme focuses on mathematical and financial topics such as probability, market structure, and arbitrage through a combination of short classroom lectures, group games, and mock trading sessions. There is a curriculum of core subjects with flexibility to explore alternative areas of interest for those already familiar with a given topic. WiTT activities are structured to provide a foundation for and a broad overview of our work and close interaction with our traders.

WiTT’s software engineering programme includes talks on: OCaml, the libraries and tools that we use in our everyday work, and the fundamentals of building electronic trading systems. Programme participants will put these tools to use by writing the backend and UI for a computer game and a program that trades on a simulated stock exchange. These activities involve a combination of classroom lectures, group games and exercises, and one-on-one mentorship.

Selected students will arrive in London the evening of Sunday 8th September and will depart the evening of Wednesday 11th September. Jane Street will provide all travel to and from London, accommodation at a hotel near the office, and of course, plenty of food and drinks throughout the event.

Jane Street is a quantitative trading firm that uses innovative technology, a scientific approach, and a deep understanding of markets to guide our business, working out of offices in New York, London, Amsterdam and Hong Kong. Founded in 2000, Jane Street employs over 900 people. We are always recruiting top students and the environment at Jane Street is open, informal, intellectual and fun. The dress code is casual, the kitchen is stocked and discussions are always lively. Teaching and learning are central activities through classes, mentoring and discussion.
