About the Position
We’re looking for an experienced and skilled educator to help us teach people about the plethora of things they need to know to be effective programmers at Jane Street.
Education is a big focus for us, as we grow both in human terms as well as in the complexity and sophistication of our technology stack. We believe that continued learning and exploration will play an essential role in supporting this growth.
We have a lot of different kinds of education programs to contribute to and learn from: OCaml Bootcamp for new traders, classes for new non-traders to learn about trading, classes for traders and researchers to learn how to leverage Python for research and data visualization, a cycle of more advanced classes for full-time devs in their first year, classes aimed at interns, and classes and programs for potential hires. And that’s just scratching the surface.
The Developer Educator will be instrumental in maintaining and growing these educational programs and classes. We’re looking for someone who:
- Is a skilled, effective, and experienced teacher. Part of that means being an effective writer and presenter.
- Is good at writing code, and is excited to spend a significant fraction of their time doing so. The job requires developing an understanding of our technology stack, and the best way to build that understanding is by doing.
- Is a great mentor to other budding teachers. Part of the job is going to be teaching and developing curricula. But an equally important part is going to be helping other people involved in teaching grow their skills.
We’re excited to talk to people who have experience teaching CS topics in a university setting, as well as people who have spent time teaching technical topics in industrial settings.
Base salary is $250,000 - $300,000. Base salary is only one part of Jane Street total compensation, which includes an annual discretionary bonus.
