Words

Ten women working in the STEM sectors each have four clues for you to discover, one for each of the four grids below. Each clue must have one of its words modified in a specific way to turn it into a new word. The altered sentence will function properly as a cryptic clue, even if its surface no longer makes much sense. Each numbered row contains an answer reading from left to right somewhere within it. Each numbered column contains an answer reading downwards. Answers don't pass through cells with arrows.

Evelyn's clues: Adoring dog swallowing meal (6). Create contents of tomb / urns? (4). Jam tart given to gorilla for a joke (4). About to get worn out from case work (6).

Carolyn's clues: Place with right angled package (6). Very bad ache (4). Peter, a woodland creature (6). Each trout is rotten (5).

Janet's clues: Small pin for supporting column (5). Change plug with a pin (5). Romeo has to change pin (7). Hold pin for swimmer (7).

Grace's clues: Break down middle of steel rod (5). Security feature added to casino's first tier (5). Metal plane (7). Be in charge, but start to drink ale (4).

Bibha's clues: Engineer enters a closet (7). Seen in vandalism on the arch, for example (5). Get rid of hater (4). Count all eighty, but missing eight (5).

Donna's clues: Deviant insect duped by large malevolent character (5). Fizzy drink for Burt (3). Overly cautious leader left prematurely (7). Bacon is not heavy (5).

Harriet's clues: How to get a gift (7). Sick after starting to polish table (4). Find organized mentors (7). Rock incorporated into the scientific principle (7).

Fumiko's clues: Father used to write intros to questions used in Latin lessons (5). Revered doctor goes to emergency room to find programmer (5). Owed a share of the profits (3). Some children asked for hire charge (4).
