A look inside our newest data center
Writer and podcaster Dwarkesh Patel recently visited one of our new Texas data centers for an up-close look at the infrastructure behind our research and trading. Ron Minsky, who co-leads Jane Street's tech group, and Dan Pontecorvo, who runs our physical engineering team, walked him through the facility — 4,032 GPUs across 56 racks, retrofitted for liquid cooling, with roughly 8,000 km of fiber tying it all together. They pulled up floorboards, opened racks, and traced the path from power and cooling up through the network fabric.
"One thing that surprised me was seeing first-hand just how power dense new GPU racks are," Dwarkesh said. "It's one thing to think about it in theory, but it's another thing entirely to see the whole grid interconnect wattage of the datacenter taken up by racks that fit in a small fraction of the space originally allotted for chips."
Dwarkesh, Ron, and Dan also sat down for a longer conversation on GPUs, the evolving horizons of trading research, and how we think about hiring.
