Behind the scenes with 3Blue1Brown

We are longtime fans of Grant Sanderson and his YouTube channel, 3Blue1Brown, at Jane Street. So when we had a chance to sit down with Grant for a roundtable conversation at our New York office, we jumped at it!

In this new video, Streeters Nitya, In Young, Craig, and Alok cover a lot of ground with Grant: what Jane Street actually does, why we run a real-time auction for our compute cluster, and how the work has changed over 20 years – from trading systems running in Excel spreadsheets in 2005 to deep learning now being the single largest driver of our systematic trading. They also shared their own paths to Jane Street, from spotting a job on the OCaml mailing list to taking a mid-career detour for a PhD.
