About the Program

Jane Street Academy of Math and Programming (AMP) is a five-week summer program for students graduating from high school in 2022 who have experienced barriers to access and opportunity within advanced STEM educational experiences. It will provide a rigorous and interactive STEM curriculum focusing on topics near and dear to Jane Street, including probability, statistics, computer programming, data analysis, and game theory.

Summer days at AMP will be rigorous and rewarding—full of lectures, problem solving, and games playing, guided by excellent instructors and teaching assistants. Students will receive attentive support through all courses with a student to teacher ratio less than 4:1. At the core of our culture are learning, teaching, and problem solving and we believe that everyone should have access to excellent technical education. Through AMP, we hope to share these values with the next generation of mathematicians, programmers, engineers, data scientists, and game theorists.

AMP will be held from July 2nd - August 6th in New York City, and housing will be provided for all students and staff. Breakfast, lunch, and refreshments will be provided on days classes are in session. Residential spaces will be stocked with games and staff will organize weekend activities to build community, round out the residential experience, and just have some fun together.

Jane Street will provide all AMP students a scholarship, Chromebook, and other perks.

Jane Street is a global quantitative trading firm with offices in New York, London, Hong Kong, and Amsterdam. Our work is technologically and mathematically intense, and is driven by our people. We solve problems, ask questions, stay humble, and learn new things every day.

For Prospective Participants

Are you a soon-to-be high school graduate eager to spend a chunk of your summer immersed in technical topics, honing your skills and learning brand new ones? Wonderful—we hope to hear from you.

This program is intended for incoming first-year undergraduate students who have experienced barriers to access and opportunity within advanced STEM educational experiences. Our definition of such barriers is broad and could be related to personal circumstances or financial hardship. We acknowledge the breadth of challenges that could lead a high-achieving student to be under-resourced or under-exposed to advanced STEM studies. For more information please see the FAQs.

We encourage any student who is interested and believes they fit the criteria for the program to apply.

Please submit a resume by the deadline to apply. Please see FAQs for resume writing guidelines.

The deadline to apply is Sunday, April 24th, 11:59pm EDT. All applications will be reviewed after the application deadline. After application review, some applicants will receive an invitation to complete an assessment. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email academy@janestreet.com.

Good luck with the application process and we hope to meet you soon!

For Prospective Staff

We are hiring a director, two instructors, and a number of teaching assistants. The director will coordinate all programs and keep a clear view of everything happening each day. The instructors will focus on computer programming and probability and statistics, respectively, developing and presenting course materials. And the teaching assistants will aid in this work, provide student support both one-on-one and in small groups, play strategy games (e.g., poker and chess) with students, and may also serve as residential advisors.

We rely on our staff to provide a welcoming and supportive educational environment for all students throughout the program. All are expected to be engaged on-site while classes are in session, five full-days a week. Additionally, staff will periodically provide support for extracurricular activities and excursions.

Jane Street values the quality of our instruction, and we compensate our high-caliber educators accordingly. There is also the opportunity to earn extra compensation for residential advisor duties, as needed. Housing will be provided to all staff.
